What is true spirituality?

Today, I read the message of the Indian Spiritual Guru, Mata Amrutanandamayi, in our vernacular newspaper. She said that true spirituality is knowing yourself. This is a very profound statement which I would like to explore in detail..

She also added that knowing oneself is acquiring the capacity to awaken one’s own unlimited potential. It is also the way to train the mind to handle every situation calmly and peacefully.

While reading and listening to the discourses on the Bagavat Gita, I had come across the word ‘detachment’ and this I understood as indifference. Is indifference a desirable quality? Is it desirable to be indifferent to all those around us?

Now, reading on Buddhism, I understand that detachment is not really indifference or being unresponsive, it is not being attached to what is outside with strings and chains so that every tug or push disturbs your equilibrium.

This also needs a lot of thought.

I hope to come back with more.
